HOW TO: Hide Files,Photos and Folders in Xiaomi Phone (MIUI 7.1)

Whether it is your sister's marriage or your son's birthday party, you take photos of every moment of your life no matter how less important it may be.

Some of them may be personal, some may be funny. And so you just want to keep it just for yourself. And in such hypothetical times when you just can neither Delete those Photos nor like to show them to other.

This just doesn’t apply for photos. There may be also some important files which you don’t want others to see, maybe due to the reason it is confidential.

Then what do you want to do with them? Yes! Hide them.

And Yes, you don’t need to install any apps to Hide files

MIUI is so feature rich that you can accomplish most tasks without the need of installing apps for each functionality.

And Hiding files is one of those features.  In MIUI 7 there is a built-in option to hide Files, Photos, and even Folders.

The hidden files are then encrypted and hid in an invisible secret folder. To view or Unhide folders you have to enter your device Pattern/password.

What you need :

• A Xiaomi Phone or Any android device running on MIUI 7.1 (Stable) or Beta ROM
• Phone setup with lock (PIN, Password or Pattern)
• Files, Photos or Folders to Hide

Hide Files, Folders, and Photos in Xiaomi MIUI 7

To Hide Files and Folders using File explorer

1. Open  Explorer (Default MIUI file manager) and select any Files and folders you want to hide.
2. Now in the options at the bottom, Tap on More  and then tap on Hide.
3. Now, if you haven’t already set a password for your phone, you will be prompted to create one. 

The files and folders will now be hidden in a secret folder.

To Hide Photos/Videos using Gallery app

This is similar to hiding files as explained above.

1. Go to Gallery app and select the Photos or Videos you want to hide.
2. And now in the options tap on Hide.

Restore/Unhide hidden Files and photos

To View/UnHide Files in File manager

1. Open Explorer app. Touch and Pull to bottom and you can see a progressing lock icon. Enter the password/ Pattern and now you can see all hidden files and folders.
2. Long tap and select the files you want to Unhide and tap on Remove at the bottom and select any folder, in which you want to send that file to.

Now the file will be stored in selected folder.
Note: You  can use the files as usual even if it is hidden.

To View/Hide Photos/Videos in Gallery

1. Open Gallery app and swipe to Cloud tab. Pull down to see the progressing lock and enter the password.
2. Select the files you want to remove from the hidden album and tap on Unhide. Select an album, to which you want to restore photos.

Note that you can only restore the photos into albums in Cloud tab. You can’t restore back to its original position.

That’s all, you can now hide files, folders, and photos/ videos in your Xiaomi Mi5, Redmi note 3 or whatever Xiaomi  device you have.
